Job applications are where headshots go to die quietly. A CV with a photo embedded is often expected to sit under a few hundred kilobytes, applicant tracking portals reject attachments over their own caps, and a 9MB camera file will stall an email or bounce off a mailbox limit before a recruiter ever sees it. The photo does not need to be large to do its job: on a CV it prints or renders at roughly 35-45mm wide, and in an email signature or a profile card it is a thumbnail. Somewhere around 600-1000 pixels on the long edge is more resolution than any of those placements can use. The other thing worth knowing: many regions have norms about photos on CVs — Germany, Austria and Switzerland expect one, the US and UK often discourage it — so the size question only matters once you have decided to include it at all.
